Creating our unique Journal of Inspiration invites us into a world of natural beauty. It will fill us with amazement. The process of gathering heartfelt words (quotes, poetry, affirmations) and images (artwork, collage) embraces the gifts of peace, energy and joy. Using the metaphor of a river, we will follow the rhythm of nature, discovering different ways to integrate representations into our lives on a daily basis. Through instruction and sharing of insights, each student’s experience will become part of the collective wisdom that lays the foundation for an ever-evolving, personalized journal.
One way or another most journaling classes involve seeing, but for this course, you will spend much of your time with your eyes closed as you focus on the sounds around you, from thunder to bumblebees to wind through the trees. We speak often of Spirit “speaking” to us, but how often do we spend time listening for the message?
Spend guided time in opening yourself to the sounds that go along with the sights in nature and then writing about what you have heard and sharing your reflections with a group of other journalers—experienced or new.

Instructor: Lisabeth Smith
The inspiration we feel in nature can be described in many ways, one of which is “spirit.” Some relate this to the Holy Spirit, some to the spirit of our muse, some to the energy around us when we get out into nature. Whether you take in the spirit of nature at a beach, in a forest, in the grasslands or in your garden or a nearby park, you do it with your senses and the first sense we usually think of when we look at perception is sight.
“Seeing Spirit in Nature” encourages participants to explore a single sense deeply to learn how and why sight connects to our own spiritual selves and then to go outside and practice intentional visual spiritual connection. Using several journaling techniques, we will record our experiences as we go and share as we are moved to do so.
Labyrinths and journals are natural companions. The meditative quality of walking a labyrinth welcomes, reflects and enhances our inner journey.
Writing the Labyrinth offers a two-fold exploration of this ancient process: journaling options before, during and after walking the pathway, along with historical facts about labyrinths. Through the use of art work and writing, students will participate in a metaphorical journey as they travel pathways that can become inspiration for internal understanding and self-empowerment.
(*Note: We will discuss the various ways labyrinths can be located and walked, including the use of paper, wooden and/or pewter templates for “finger” walking. )
This course is designed to introduce students of all levels – from non-writers to professional wordsmiths – to the art of spiritual memoir. Through writing exercises and group interaction, we investigate the mysterious connection between the person we believe ourselves to be and the internal witness who sees beyond the conscious mind into the secrets of our hearts. By learning to shape life’s raw materials into art, we discover that our challenges are also our greatest sources of wisdom, and that even our darkest (or most unexpected) interludes carry within them the seeds of redemption
Come play with an open mindset and beginner’s mind. Through directed writing prompts and techniques, lectures, and discussions you will learn your unique ways of receiving intuitive wisdom, create a positive mental mindset and acknowledge the guidance that is being given to you. A fascinating and inspiring approach to journaling and creative writing for healing. We will be using Writing as a Way of Healing, a literature professor’s scholarly exploration of the personal healing work of famous diarists and novelists, as the foundation for exploration of your own creative and personal process. Students will have the opportunity to practice other creative expressions, such as collage and art work, as prompts for writing. We will begin the course with guidelines for safe writing, including breath work, and establish a process journal that will be used during the course and may be continued with future/ongoing creative work.
Required Text:Writing as a Way of Healing: How Telling Our Stories Transforms Our Lives, by Louise DeSalvo available at Amazon.com HERE

Experiencing grief can feel like we are traveling in a foreign land. We are in a different zone; the food tastes different; our sleep clock is off. We don’t feel like ourselves. The faces of grief are strange but familiar. Losses we grieve can be literal or symbolic. Join us on a journey to explore what we know, what we think we know and what we can learn about, with, and through grief. NOTE: If you have experienced a significant loss in the last three months, we gently ask that you not register for this class at this time.
This course, targeted to therapists and therapeutic writing facilitators/students, illustrates the use of writing in response to trauma. It includes the basic concepts of transformative writing as applied to trauma survivors and includes actual case studies and writing of clients as they write their ways through specific life-changing events, such as war, addiction, sexual abuse, health crisis, grief, and more. Through multimodal means (regular TWI format plus live/recorded audio interviews with authors featured in the text) we explore the narrative, the creative expression, and aspects of the healing process, and we examine specific techniques of guided facilitation and form. This course is for therapists and therapeutic writing practitioners/students
